Avengers Making History

Fb-Button

It’s that time of the year again where some of the biggest summer blockbusters are beginning to see their release dates. One of the first movies to open the summer blockbusters is The Avengers. The Earth’s Mightiest heroes hit the big screen this weekend and it was nothing short of a success.

Marvel Studios’ The Avengers took box office records this weekend making an astonishing $200.3 million, breaking the opening weekend record. After this weekend, The Avengers now stands as having the biggest opening weekend of all time, surpassing the previous record holder Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 which made $169 million.

The Avengers is on fast pace to make $641.8 million, globally. Movie-goers haven’t seen a superhero blockbuster have this much success since The Dark Knight, which released back in 2008, breaking records itself. People who have seen the movie are already calling it the best superhero movie of all time.

Much of The Avengers success came from the movies that led to its release. Iron Man, Thor, and The Incredible Hulk, to name a few helped build up the hype surrounding The Avengers. Each of the preceding films featured either characters crossing over to other movies or post-credit clips that built up anticipation for The Avengers.

The Avengers buzz isn’t stopping anytime soon; more and more people are running to theaters to catch some of their favorite superheroes together on the big screen. With summer approaching, we are seeing more and more blockbuster being released such as BattleShip, The Amazing Spider-Man, The Expendables 2, and of course The Dark Knight Rises

With the pace that The Avengers is taking going into the summer, a lot of the films that are releasing are looking to have to same success as The Avengers. Iron Man and Company has set the bar high for the rest of the movies that are coming this summer. Now the only question remains, what will top The Avengers?
